The fall is here and we couldn’t be any more excited for cooler nights, colorful leaves, and fun activities like picking apples at the orchard or going on a hayride. It’s a great time to take the family out, or just snuggle into a good book on the couch. Whichever way you like to celebrate the transitional season, autumn in the Midwest is truly a beautiful time of the year.
Here at Truronia, we love to shop local- local produce, that is. The Midwest region specifically, is extremely rich in diverse plants, vegetables, and fruits. Even though the Midwestern states are vastly different from one another, they do share one thing in common- we’ve got some delicious crops!

The heart of the U.S. has plenty of crops to offer us. Introducing more vegetables in your diet has never been so easy! Include zucchini into your plates of pasta and frittatas, or make it into a delicious zucchini bread. Roast some eggplant and add it to a sandwich, bake it into a lasagna, or grill it into Mediterranean-inspired skewers. Beyond a carved Jack-O-Lantern, pumpkins can be cooked into baked goods like muffins and bread, as well as chili, risotto, and pasta.
Learning more about which produce is in season can start at your local farmer’s market. It’s a great way to get involved in your community, as well as educate yourself about your own native harvest vegetables and fruits. Ask your farmers how these crops are harvested, how they get from their farms to your hands. This is an opportunity for you to connect your kitchen to your community at-large.
